SOCIALES

Sociales is a long-term cultural project that began in 2008 at the University of Buenos Aires, when I started collecting hand-painted posters created by student groups during elections. These ephemeral yet powerful materials became a living archive, later recontextualized into installations exhibited both within the university and in international contexts.

The project preserves and reframes a grassroots visual culture of democracy, showing how students build identity and citizenship through public speech and the occupation of space. From Sociología Contraataca (2008), through Sociales Wallpaper, University of Buenos Aires (2010) and El Norte no va a estar arriba, va a ser todo Sur (2011) —a permanent installation at the University of Oslo—, to the more recent El Sur Invade el Norte (2025), the work has expanded into a critical platform connecting local student practices with global debates on education and democracy.

In 2025, I developed a New York version titled The South Invades the North, incorporating English-language slogans that address universal issues such as student debt, economic precarity, and the role of public education. This edition reinforced and expanded the trajectory of the project, further positioning it within the global conversation on citizenship and democratic participation.

Through Sociales, my aim is to preserve history, stimulate critical reflection, and celebrate the foundational values of education, civic engagement, and freedom of expression.
